The ride from Denver Airport, into the heart of the Rockies, stretched out over 2 hours Sam is usually pleased to field questions about Colorado, from his out of state fares, but this rider was rather silent. One can only speculate that he was in awe of the majesty of the beautiful mountains scenery, and its great contrast to the cityscape of New York. Or maybe the man was just unwinding and anticipating the good company and reunion with his girlfriend, a close friend of the bride.

Pyramids Limo is always happy to offer return rides to their airport fares, however, this man was planning to go back on Sunday with friends. Having safely deposited his fare at the hotel, Sam returned to Denver, arriving home at 4 in the morning.

Puerto Marina, Benalmadena is located to the west of Malaga and Torremolinos. Benalmadena’s tourist explosion occurred later than Torremolinos’ and it has managed to avoid some of the uglier large concrete developments of the 1970’s. The once famous Plaza Sol y Mar – better known as the 24-hour square (due to the bars and clubs staying open all night) – has now been completely rebuilt as a commercial centre with shops and cafes. The town also boasts a sea life centre in Puerto Marina, and the Tivoli theme park in the conjoined village of Arroyo de la Miel (see also more attractions in Malaga). When they purchased it in 1985, it was in its natural state and they spent six years tearing through the jungle to create their timber pole house. Each can sleep up to four and a maximum of eight guests are catered for at any one time. The feeling of living on a deserted island remains intact.

The huts have conical roofs, the walls are shutters, the huge beds have crisp cotton sheets and each has a slate-floored bathroom with shower and toilet, small kitchen, refrigerator and sink. There are sundecks just right for sitting and soaking in views of the turquoise lagoon, the Coral Sea and uninhabited islands.

The surrounding waters are chock-full of the most wonderful array of fish. Originally the majority of their visitors were fishing enthusiasts. Now people from all sorts of backgrounds are discovering what Haggerstone has to offer. The food, with its freshness and simplicity, is certainly an enormous enticement.

Apart from taking advantage of the bounty of seafood at their front door, the Turners grow wonderful fruit, vegetables and herbs and put them to delicious use.

The main building is spacious with open sides to take advantage of the cooling breezes. It has a main kitchen, two bathrooms, a dining area and extensive library. There is a deck with an open fire, and that is where the evening meal is prepared most of the time.

The island is a great place for bird watching. It is home to sun birds, pigeons, honey eaters, eagles, kingfishers, finches, jungle fowl and doves. You can snorkel, scuba or fish, inspect the shipwrecks, swim around the pristine coral gardens or comb the beach for WWII artifacts.

The Turners have a seven-meter twin engine catamaran, and a seven-meter and a six-meter fiberglass long boat available for fishing, diving and exploration. Within a 60km radius there are thousands of reefs making up the largest protected marine park in the world.

Haggerstone is a truly unique and breathtaking place - a small complex of tropical timber buildings, gardens, orchard and dams; set amidst true wilderness country, teeming with fish and bird life and surrounded by some of the most wonderful pristine coral gardens in the world.
