Thinking Of Moving To Spain?

moving spain
If you have ever had that thought that sometimes remains unspoken about what it would be like to live abroad, maybe this article will help you. We talk here about Spain in particular but it can equally apply to other countries.
For a Northern European, a Brit in my case, Living in Spain was always my dream. From a young age I knew that it was my long term destination. However why? Like most people I fell in love with the idea of the country on a holiday, a cheap package one at that. My first experience was on the Costa Brava, North of Barcelona. I was surprised at the ease of life, the speed at which things happened, or didn’t sometimes and the joy in the faces of the people. A day out in Barcelona more or less sealed the deal. Prior to the visit I had often thought about living here, this just made it certain.
Then the question was how to get a plan of action to make sure the dream was realised. My suggestions, learn the language, read about the background and visit, lots, to get a good idea of where you want to be in Spain whether that be mainland or islands.
Deciding what you want to do is the next step once you have decided this. Without qualifications and language skills living in Spain can be difficult as why should anyone employ you before a local or another foreigner with language skills.
There are a multitude of things you need to know about local customs and practices and life can be very different, most people are constantly caught out for the first few weeks by shop opening and closing times, by the lateness of the eating hours in restaurants by the lack of their favourite products. However, the problems of settling down soon pass.
So what is life like on the ground in Spain
1) Expect to work long hours and fit in your family life around it. Some people do.
2) While you are learning the language you should expect to take some time in adjusting to the lifestyle and getting yourself into the community. Unless you are in an expat area by the coast it is most likely that not many people will speak English
3) Expect to laugh a lot. Life is easier here but bureaucracy is like a maze. Take everything with a pinch of salt and laugh about it because in future it becomes an anecdote
4) Read my blog regularly as it details loads of aspects of life here in Spain, the funny and the tragic, usually involving utility companies this bit, and the quite often bizarre.
Once all of this is done and you have prepared everything well then you will be ready to come and find out what it is like to live here. Only then should you start thinking about buying a house for sale in Spain. Do not come unprepared as you will return back to your country with your tail between your legs after at most a couple of years. If you fail to prepare then prepare to fail. Following this advice will help you out in succeeding better.
