Find Out Important Information About Las Vegas Experience

las vegas vacation
This may be one of the older hotels on the Strip, but it has kept up with trends over the past few years, adding new high-tech accommodations, a spa, superb shopping opportunities and celebrated dining. Actually, with its bold Roman theme in place since its inception decades ago, this is one of the pioneers of Las Vegas kitsch, though since the new millennium it is leaning more toward classy. This hotel is a direct competitor with the Bellagio, Venetian, Mirage, Wynn and MGM Grand.
Over the years, much of the 1970s-inspired tacky Roman flavor has been washed over with a more sophisticated theme, though one still undeniably Roman. Compared to the competition, this hotel is almost understated. Only in Vegas could this be said of a hotel with Neo-Greco-Roman-Hollywood decor, holograms, scantily costumed goddesses dispensing cocktails, sarong-clad masseuses, breast-plated Roman soldiers standing guard, statues that come to life, and conveyor belts rolling tourists in from the street to the casino.
Grounds juxtapose abstract neon lighting with flashy domes, formal gardens and Roman whimsy. Common rooms are generally packed, as guests from other hotels make pilgrimages to the casino and to the Forum Shops with the virtual-reality Appian Way.More than a dozen restaurants provide an impressive selection of dining choices, though this is hardly a match for the exceptional dining rosters at The Venetian and Mandalay Bay hotels. Choices run from a Chinese room with delicacies prepared by renowned Hong Kong chefs to a prix-fixe teppanyaki and sushi spot, a Nero-themed steak house and an elaborate seafood place. The poolside Northern Italian restaurant rivalsValentino’s at the Venetian. The buffet is surprisingly small, but the quality of food is among the best in Las Vegas. There is also the ubiquitous 24-hour coffee shop.
Also on-site are Mesa Grill, an offshoot of the famous New York restaurant featuring a gourmet take on southwestern cuisine, 808, specializing in Pacific Rim cuisine, and a food court with everything from southern barbecue to noodles and wraps. Steps away at the Forum are Planet Hollywood and Wolfgang Puck’s Spago and Chinois, and next to the events center is Tony Tammero’s Palm.
Casino games cover 130,000 sq ft, including the high-stakes room in the Palace Tower where the slot machines swallow $500 coins and high-rollers can play table games with some privacy. Lounges offer libations, entertainment and fine perches for people-watching. Two restaurants and the casino have piano bars, Cleopatra’s Barge in the heart of the casino has a dance floor that rocks to Top 40 until 4 am, and the provocative Shadow Bar displays dancers silhouetted behind a sheer scrim screen.
Despite all of the delicious food, sparkling beverages and trendy nightspots, the jewel in Caesars’ crown of amusements remains the 4,000-seat Coliseum theater-in-the-round, where Celine Dion belts out her portfolio of top-charting singles. (Elton John fills in during her off days. Bette Midler takes over for Dion in February 2008.)
Entertainment is also hosted in the 4.5-acre Garden of the Gods pool terrace (reputedly inspired by ancient Roman baths) with its four pools, one shaped like a Roman shield and adorned with marble inlay. Also on this opulent terrace are two whirlpools, a snack bar and cabanas surrounded with manicured landscaping, fountains and marble statuary. The Venus pool is set aside for topless bathing and adjoins a huge 28-ft whirlpool boasting a waterfall.
The 50,000-sq-ft Qua Baths & Spa offers Roman baths in both the men’s and women’s areas; an Arctic Ice Room, where guests cool down after undergoing heat treatments; and the Crystal Room, which offers customized body designs using crystals adhered to the skin. The Men’s Only Zone offers hairstyling; hot-lather, straight-razor shaves; and manicures and pedicures.
The hotel also proffers a 5,000-sq-ft fitness center with virtual-reality aerobics machines and a unique revolving climbing wall. The conference facilities can welcome groups of 10 to 3,000 people.
Guest-room quality continues to improve, with the accommodations in the newest Augustus Tower providing the pinnacle of Caesarian style. At nearly 650 sq ft, the deluxe rooms here are some of the largest on the Strip. Some of the older rooms in the Roman Tower still cling to their etched glass accents and mirrored canopied beds, but the newer rooms, even the ones in the recently renovated Palace Tower, are looking lovely these days. All provide ample floor space, plush carpeting, a soothing palette, dark woods, high-speed Internet access, large Web TVs in armoires and crushed-velvet chairs.
Although no longer the largest, the sleek Palace Tower rooms are preferred by regulars for their spacious baths with jetted tubs and large sitting areas. Petite suites have his-and-hers baths. Rooms begin on the fifth floor, and thus, all offer good views. Units in the Centurion Tower are mostly suites, and standard 325-sq-ft rooms fill the older Roman and Forum towers. Guests checking into the Augustus Tower should request a room overlooking Bellagio’s fountain.
This hotel is surprisingly efficient for its size, pressures and presumptions, and its 1960s Rat Pack heritage helps burnish its reputation as the classic Las Vegas Strip hotel.
